Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
